Week 9 -

My brother brandon loves starlight candy peppermints... and this week the info came across my email and we just had to call brandon and tell him that his neisphew(since we are all going to be surprised this is the term given our little doodlebug) was the size of his favorite candy!

09 weeks Oct. 13, 2009 • Size: Length 1-1.25in, weight <.25oz, Size Starlight Peppermint (baby peppermint)

"The baby's internal reproductive organs (the testes or ovaries) are forming. Also, the placenta is fully in place now, delivering key nutrients to fuel the baby's growth spurts. And even though it may leave the womb as bald as a lollipop, trust that their hair follicles begin to develop this week too!" - Ages and Stages

"The baby is an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. The baby is starting to look more and more human. The essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: The baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do the tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. The baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. The eyes are fully formed, but the eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. The baby has tiny earlobes, and the mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that the baby's basic physiology is in place, there will be room for rapid weight gain." - Baby Center

As you can tell by reading the two different sites information they do not always say the same things, or measure the baby the same way. One is a starlight mint, the other a grape! Either way how fun!!!!

Hope you are all enjoying learning so much about the future baby doodlebug downey!
